How to Treat a Sinus Infection Naturally

There are ways to naturally treat a sinus infection with eucalyptus oil, warm washcloths, sleep, dusting your home and drinking hot tea with honey. Sinusitis can be treated without an antibiotic from the doctor.

Sinus infections occur when membranes in your sinuses become infected many times by allergies or colds. Many doctors will suggest prescribing you an antibiotic however, antibiotics are proven to weaken ones immune system. There are ways to treat a sinus infection naturally without any medication.

You don’t need to be told by the doctor if you have a sinus infection or not. It is very easy to determine a sinus infection by the symptoms that are shown. One common symptom is pressure on your face especially on your cheeks and forehead. Another symptom is thick mucus and cold like symptoms such as fatigue and headaches.

Treating a sinus infection naturally will help relieve any pain that you may be experiencing. Natural remedies do not have a specific amount of times that you can treat yourself unlike medications.

-Hot Beverages   Drinking hot beverages, especially hot tea will help you feel better quickly. Adding honey to your tea is also helpful since it contains many healing properties. Drinking hot or warm beverages will help loosen the mucous you may have built up and will drain quickly, helping you get over your sinus infection quicker.

-Nasal Spray   You can make your own nasal spray with items you have in your own home. Simply pour some warm water into a bowl and slowly sniff warm water in and out of your nose to help circulation. This will not only help circulation but will also clean out your system.

-Use Warm Washcloths   Soak a washcloth in warm water and apply to the areas on your face where you feel pressure. Underneath your eyes, on your cheeks and forehead are several places that this washcloth may feel great on. This will help relieve any pressure you may have built up in your face.

-Eucalyptus Oil   Eucalyptus oil is a natural oil will give you a soothing sensation and will help you breathe better. You can find eucalyptus oil at a natural health food store and you can use it several ways. One method of using the oil is to pour a few drops on your hands and rub them together. Cup your hands while bringing them up to your face and breathe in and out. Be sure to close your eyes when you do this because the eucalyptus can burn your eyes. Another method is to boil a bowl of water and drop a few drops in the boil. The scent will fill the air and will thin out the mucous making it easier for you to breath.

-Dust   Dusting will not only treat your sinusitis, but it will prevent it as well. When dust collects it gathers and sticks in your mucous membrane which causes a sinus infection. Dusting and vacuuming your house often is rather important for your sinuses.

-Sleep   Getting an adequate amount of sleep each night will help your sinus infection clear quickly. Sleep is a great way to overcome not only sinus infections but colds, flues and other respiratory infections as well. Sleep in a dark, quiet room and ease your mind of all stress to get a great night of sleep. It is also helpful to elevate your head with pillows when you are sleep to allow the mucous to drain.
